£50m Prem ace up next for Tottenham, with Daniel Levy poised to wreck Newcastle plans
Tottenham have turned their attention to the signing of a £50m-rated Crystal Palace ace, with chairman Daniel Levy ‘primed to pounce’ for the Newcastle target, per a report.
It’s been a busy summer thus far for Spurs, with five major arrivals signed, sealed and delivered. The loan spells of Pedro Porro and Dejan Kulusevski have been turned permanent. Elsewhere, Guglielmo Vicario has displaced Hugo Lloris as the new starting goalkeeper, while James Maddison and Manor Solomon will add new dimensions in attack.
However, Ange Postecoglou’s first window at the helm still has plenty of chapters left to write. Indeed, a series of defenders are in line to make way, while one and potentially two new centre-backs are required to take their place.
Wolfsburg’s Micky van de Ven appears to have emerged as Tottenham’s primary target ahead of Edmond Tapsoba of Bayer Leverkusen.
Liverpool recently pulled the plug on their pursuit of Van de Ven, thus leaving the door ajar for Spurs. A deal is expected to cost in the region of £30m, though the speedy Dutchman might not be the only new centre-half to arrive.
Aside from Tapsoba, Spurs have also been heavily linked with Fulham’s Tosin Adarabioyo and Clement Lenglet. The latter spent last season on loan at Spurs from Barcelona who are open to an outright sale.
However, according to the Sun, Tottenham and specifically chairman Daniel Levy have a superior option in mind.
Levy driving Andersen chase
The newspaper states Tottenham are set to rival Newcastle in the race to sign Crystal Palace colossus, Joachim Andersen.
Levy is understood to be a big admirer of the Dane, with the report adding the Spurs chairman ‘has been after Andersen since his Fulham days’.
Now 27, Andersen is among the leading centre-halves in the EPL and has struck up a superb partnership with Marc Guehi over the last two seasons. Aside from his defensive prowess, Andersen is also known for his calmness in possession and ball-playing ability.
Palace are understandably reluctant to lose such an accomplished performer. However, a high profile sale could help to kickstart their summer window, with a reported £50m price tag to open up many avenues for Roy Hodgson’s side.
Brentford previously enquired into signing Andersen earlier this window. However, the Bees’ £20m valuation was quickly dismissed by Palace who it’s reiterated want around £50m.
Newcastle are another who like what they’ve seen from the 23-cap Denmark international. However, it’s Spurs who are primed to act on their interest and the player is deemed open to making the switch despite Spurs’ lack of European football next season.
Football London have gone on record to state Spurs would choose between Van de Ven and Tapsoba this summer, as opposed to signing both.
However, with the likes of Ben Davies, Davinson Sanchez and Joe Rodon up for sale, combined with Lenglet leaving on loan, a second addition may be a necessity and not a luxury.
