Crystal Palace accelerate move for Liverpool target as fears grow Tottenham and Newcastle will poach sublime pair

Crystal Palace are stepping up their interest in a Liverpool-linked centre-back amid fears Tottenham and Newcastle will poach Marc Guehi and Joachim Andersen respectively, per a report.

The Eagles finished in a solid 11th place last season thanks in large part to the rescue act performed by Roy Hodgson. The Times recently reported Crystal Palace are hopeful of convincing the former England boss to continue as their manager next season. However, Hodgson may be wise to wait and see what transpires regarding a clutch of Palace’s best players.

Indeed, Wilfried Zaha is courting interest from both Lazio and Saudi Arabia and will become a free agent on June 30.

Elsewhere, the Athletic bring news of Tottenham eyeing Marc Guehi and Newcastle sizing up Joachim Andersen.

The centre-backs have combined to form a superb pairing over the last two seasons. Guehi has gone on to become a regular in Gareth Southgate’s England squads during his time at Selhurst Park, while Andersen has been lauded for his ball-playing abilities at the back.

But per the Athletic, Palace are braced for offers for both players who may be offered moves further up the table very shortly.

Indeed, Spurs are known to be hunting at least one new centre-back, with Harry Maguire, Tosin Adarabioyo, Gleison Bremer and Edmond Tapsoba all on their radar.

However, Guehi arguably represents the most idealistic option given his age (22) and the fact he’s proven in the Premier League.

The Athletic note Arsenal also like what they’ve seen from Guehi, though their attention is currently on Ajax’s Jurrien Timber.

Regardless, Tottenham’s interest has always been the stronger of the two and the Daily Mail recently quoted a £60m asking price.

Newcastle wowed by Joachim Andersen

On the subject of Andersen, it’s Newcastle who are posing a threat to Crystal Palace.

Indeed, the Magpies are labelled ‘admirers’ of the 27-year-old Denmark international. His calmness and composure on the ball, combined with his propensity for defence-splitting diagonal passes have reportedly got Newcastle hot under the collar.

A transfer valuation isn’t cited in Andersen’s case, though in the event either he or Guehi leaves, Palace will reportedly turn to Liverpool target, Perr Schuurs.

The 23-year-old plies his trade for Serie A side Torino and Palace are understood to be ‘exploring a deal’.

Dutch international Schuurs has repeatedly been linked with Liverpool, not least by Calciomercato who previously claimed the Reds were ‘ready to present an offer’.

However, that trail has since gone cold and it’s Palace who are now ‘trying to secure a deal to bring him to south London’.

While Schuurs is being chased, it’s acknowledged a move will likely only come to pass if Guehi or Andersen are poached.
