Tottenham target Serie A again in move for bargain £12m left-back perfect for Conte’s system

Andrea Cambiaso, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic Genoa v Lazio

Tottenham are reportedly preparing another raid on Serie A, with Antonio Conte and Fabio Paratici wanting to bring in Genoa left-back Andrea Cambiaso.

Spurs turned to Italy when they landed Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski from Juventus in January, having needed some new recruits after allowing a quartet of first-team stars to move on in the new year.

The duo have so far proved to be big hits, with Uruguay’s Bentancur forming a solid midfield partnership with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg. Kulusevski, meanwhile, has notched two goals and added four assists after ousting Lucas Moura from the right-wing berth.

And now reports in Italy state that a deal could be on for the highly-rated Cambiaso.

The Italy Under-21 international is available for a cut-price £12million. That is due to the fact that he will be out of contract in the summer of 2023.

However, Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla claims that if Tottenham do make a move then they will face strong competition for his signature.

Juventus, Milan and Napoli are all keen on the 22-year-old, who was linked with Leicester and Watford in January. But at the time his agent was adamant that a move was more likely in the summer.

He said: “He [Cambiaso] was very keen to finish the season in Genoa.

Darwin Nunez or Tammy Abraham to replace Harry Kane at Tottenham

Harry Kane has been linked with a move from Tottenham to Manchester United and his replacements are already being discussed as Darwin Numez from Benfica and ex Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham

“In June, we hope that Genoa will be saved from relegation and that offers will arrive, taking the boy to more prestigious teams to improve his level. If this happens, we must all be happy.”

Cambiaso may opt for Italy stay

There is a concern for Spurs, however. Pedulla claims Cambiaso is more likely to stay in Italy than follow Kulusevski and Bentancur to England.

That would be a blow for Conte, who is looking for another left wing-back option.

The inconsistent Sergio Reguilon continues to be linked with a return to Spain. Ryan Sessegnon, meanwhile, cannot get a run of games under his belt without suffering an injury.
