Arsenal, Tottenham hold talks with Sampdoria over defensive star

Joachim Andersen TEAMtalk

Arsenal and Tottenham reportedly held talks with Sampdoria officials on Thursday to discuss the potential transfer of defender Joachim Andersen.

The 22-year-old moved to Italy last year and despite early struggles adapting to life in Serie A, the former FC Twente star has proved to be a key figure for Sampdoria – making 13 appearances this season.

Indeed, his form this term has seen the likes of Spurs, Juventus and Inter Milan all linked with a swoop for the €30million-rated star, according to Calciomercato.

But Arsenal are also keen, and the report goes on to state that Sampdoria are keen to push on with a sale and that club officials arrived in London on Thursday to open negotiations with counterparts from both north London giants.

There have also been slight links to Manchester United, but it would appear that Jose Mourinho’s main focus is on trying to bring in either Diego Godin or Milan Skriniar and not Andersen.

At this stage it would appear that Arsenal’s need for a new centre-back is more than Tottenham’s, given that Spurs have the likes of Jan Vertonghen and Davinson Sanchez still to return from injury, while young prospect Juan Foyth is beginning to show that has the qualities to succeed in English football.
