Chelsea greenlight expected, as Tottenham line up shock forward to replace Harry Kane

Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku

Tottenham are considering a shock swoop for Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku as they seek a replacement for the Bayern Munich-bound Harry Kane, per a report.

Spurs accepted Bayern’s fourth bid for Kane worth a whopping €120m. The deal comprises €100m in a fixed fee along with a further €20m in future add-ons. The total sum equates to £103.8m in pound sterling. A four-year deal will be signed and Kane has okayed the switch.

Sky Sports claimed Tottenham intend to make last-minute changes to the deal and as such, Kane was informed by the club not to fly to Munich just yet.

However, Fabrizio Romano and David Ornstein both reported Kane will travel to Germany to undergo a medical at some stage today.

In any case, Tottenham have a huge windfall on the horizon if Kane does leave and signing another established centre-half other than Micky van de Ven is on their agenda.

However, of more immediate concern is landing a direct replacement for Kane who’ll compete with Richarlison for the centre-forward role.

To that end, a remarkable report out of Italy claims Spurs are mulling a move for Chelsea outcast, Romelu Lukaku.

Lukaku is one of three big-name stars to not be handed a squad number for the upcoming season. Fabrizio Romano confirmed Lukaku “100 percent” has no future at the club.

A return to Inter Milan fell through once Lukaku held talks with bitter rival Juventus. However, a move to Turin is on taking on water with a cash-plus-player deal that would see Dusan Vlahovic move the other way not progressing.

Now, Gazzetta dello Sport state Tottenham ‘go to Lukaku’ who Chelsea would be open to selling to their London rival.

Explaining why, it’s claimed the fact Spurs would be able to offer a straight cash deal rather than a cash-plus-player affair would aid their cause.

Lukaku to Tottenham has issues

There are issues plaguing what would unquestionably be a surprise addition however. Indeed, it’s claimed Lukaku ‘doesn’t want to stay in the Premier League’.

Furthermore, it’s suggested new manager Ange Postecoglou is not all that impressed with Lukaku from a technical standpoint.

As such, the move does have a series of sizeable obstacles to clear if Lukaku is to move across London. Instead, there are other strikers Spurs are currently casting their eye on.

One is Gent frontman Gift Orban. The Nigerian, 21, scored a hattrick in the Europa Conference League on Wednesday night to take his tally for Gent to 25 goals in 25 games.

Both the Times and Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri have reported Tottenham are monitoring the striker who’ll cost around €30m to sign.

He, much more than Lukaku, looks a better fit for Spurs and Postecoglou.
