Cristiano Ronaldo in shock offer to Bundesliga outfit as Man Utd grew desperate; ‘he was offered to every Champions League club’

The CEO of Bundesliga outfit Eintracht Frankfurt has revealed that Cristiano Ronaldo was offered to them as Manchester United desperately tried to offload the club legend before his eventual release.

The 37-year-old was released from his Old Trafford contract in late November after an acrimonious ending to his second spell at the club following his bombshell interview with Piers Morgan.

And now Frankfurt executive board member Axel Hellmann has claimed United offered Ronaldo to several teams across Europe as they looked to get offload the Portuguese great.

He told DAZN: “He was even offered to us.”

Meanwhile, Philip Holzer, chairman of the club’s supervisory board, added: “I have the feeling he was offered to every Champions League club.”

Ronaldo was public in his desire to leave United after they failed to qualify for the Champions League. However, there were no takers last summer, leaving the former Real Madrid star to stay and fight for his place at Old Trafford.

However, he completely fell out of favour with Erik ten Hag, which culminated in his interview with Morgan and ultimately led to his United demise

Ronaldo was also dropped by outgoing Portugal boss Fernando Santos for his reaction to being substituted at the World Cup.

He is currently training with his old club Real as he looks to join another club.

Big-money Ronaldo move close to being announced

And while offers remain in short supply, Saudi giants Al Nassr look set to announce Ronaldo’s signing before the end of the year.

As for United, they were back in action on Wednesday night and cruised into the Carabao Cup quarter-finals with a 2-0 win over Burnley.

Marcus Rashford continued his fine form this season with a breathtaking solo strike, but Ten Hag is still expected to try and bring in another forward in the January window.

The Red Devils continue to be linked with the likes of Antoine Griezmann, Joao Felix, Dusan Vlahovic and Marcus Thuram.

However, it looks like the latter could be tempted by a move to Newcastle judging by Thursday’s Transfer Gossip.

United are back in action on December 27 when they host Nottingham Forest in the Premier League.
