David Moyes in dreamland as West Ham convince Man Utd to sell duo; Ten Hag coffers boosted by £60m

West Ham United are finally set to secure their first two signings of the summer – after a report claimed they closing on a double raid on Manchester United for Harry Maguire and Scott McTominay.

The Hammers are the only side in the Premier League yet to add to their ranks. And for ambitious manager David Moyes, that is likely to have been a source of great frustration, particularly with the £105m banked from the sale of Declan Rice burning a hole in their pocket.

Indeed, West Ham have seen two major bids this summer fail to materialise. That was after an opening £20m offer for Maguire was knocked back by United, with Erik ten Hag’s side seeking nearer the £50m mark.

And another move – this time for Southampton’s James Ward-Prowse – has also seemingly collapsed. While Saints are seemingly willing to sell the England man, Moyes and West Ham’s technical director Tim Steidten have disagreed over the fee they should pay for the 28-year-old.

As a result, the move for the 11-times capped England man is very much on hold for now.

However, good news is seemingly now just around the corner for Moyes with the Daily Express reporting that medicals are now underway for both both Maguire and McTominay.

The pair have both been made available by Erik ten Hag this summer having been deemed among eight United players told it’s game over and deemed surplus to requirements.

And with West Ham reportedly convincing United to sell the pair for a combined £60m, the news represents good news for all concerned.

West Ham will feel they are getting a bargain, with United initially having quoted £50m for Maguire. And while their opening offer was rejected, an increased offer, with McTominay as part of the package, has now seemingly been accepted.

West Ham medicals underway for McTominay and Maguire

McTominay, meanwhile, was valued at around £40m by United amid interest from Newcastle United earlier this summer. Ultimately, that price dissuaded Eddie Howe’s side from making a firm offer; the Magpies instead turning their focus towards Sandro Tonali.

That left United with another expensive asset on their books, with Ten Hag looking to move both the Scotland star and his long-term midfield ally, Fred, on this summer. Funds from their sale are likely to be put towards a move for Fiorentina’s Sofyan Amrabat.

Providing an update on the West Ham raid for the Man Utd duo, journalist Alan Nixon claims ‘long distance medicals’ are now underway for the pair.

With United having been on tour in the USA, medics for the Red Devils reportedly forwarded medical records for the pair to West Ham counterparts to help speed up the process.

Now back in the UK, the double raid is expected to gather pace in the coming days.

The Hammers will still need to agree personal terms with the duo. And while not an issue with McTominay, Maguire’s situation is likely to be more complicated owing to his £200,000 a week wages at Old Trafford.

To that end, a report recently claimed the 30-year-old England man had recently stunned United by making a financial demand of the club before finalising his exit.
