David Moyes ready to ditch failed West Ham signing as first act after Celtic snub, with plans afoot for Declan Rice cash spend

A report claims David Moyes has agreed to stay as West Ham United manager despite interest from Celtic and will sanction the release of Gianluca Scamacca.
Moyes, 60, guided the Hammers to their first European trophy for 58 years when they beat Fiorentina to claim the European Conference League. Jarrod Bowen scored the winner in Prague on Wednesday night as the East End outfit ended what has been a tricky season in style. Having flirted with relegation for much of the campaign, an upturn in results saw West Ham secure their top-flight status.
Moyes’ position seemed in jeopardy, with managers seemingly losing their jobs on a weekly basis in the top flight. But the board opted to stick with the veteran Scot and it paid dividends.
They ended up 14th in the standings, reaching the 40-point mark after their penultimate game of the season.
However, with the dust now settled on 2022-23 for the Hammers, Moyes has been linked with the Celtic job.
Ange Postecoglou’s defection to Tottenham has left a void at the Glasgow giants. And it seemed as though West Ham’s manager was in the frame to replace the Australian.
However, Sky Sports are reporting that he will remain in the capital to see out his contact with the Claret and Blue.
He has a year left on his deal with the Irons and will now look to ensure there is no repeat of last season’s domestic troubles.
It has also been reported that discussions have taken place over the summer’s recruitment plans.
Most things point to Declan Rice being sold which should hand Moyes a significant transfer kitty.
Moyes makes decision over West Ham flop
With players set to come into the club, it is inevitable that there will be a few moving on.
And, according to Sky Sport Italia, Roma have already opened talks about the possibility of taking Scamacca on loan.
England striker Tammy Abraham faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines after undergoing knee surgery.
And manager Jose Mourinho has wasted little time on looking for a replacement.
Scamacca joined West Ham for around £30m last summer. Much was expected of the Italy international but he failed to deliver on his potential.
A series of niggling injuries thwarted his progress before he underwent knee surgery in April.
And, following a return of just three goals from 16 top-flight appearances, he could be on his way.
The report suggest that talks have begun about the possibility of a loan with an option to buy.
However, with Mbala N’Zola and Mauro Icardi also linked to the Giallorossi, there is no certainty that he will end up in Rome.
But Scamacca does appears to have options of his own. Despite a troubled campaign, the man with 11 Azzurri caps is wanted by both Juventus and AC Milan.
The giant hitman ended up with eight goals in all competitions last term.
It remains to be seen if he departs but a season away from the Premier League might help his development.
Whether he returns to the London Stadium is another question.
