David Moyes sack claim made as West Ham urged to avoid treading familiar path

West Ham have been told that David Moyes has earned the right to lead the club into next season despite the battle against relegation this time around.

The Hammers missed the chance to virtually secure survival when they were beaten 4-3 at London rivals Crystal Palace on Saturday, with Moyes’ men currently four points clear of the drop with five games remaining.

The Scot has been under pressure for the majority of the campaign even though he has guided the club to the Europa Conference League semi-finals, where they face AZ Alkmaar over two legs later this month.

The 60-year-old has just over a year remaining on his current contract, but with high-profile names like Brendan Rodgers and Graham Potter currently out of work there has been talk of West Ham changing managers again.

However, former Aston Villa striker Gabby Agbonlahor thinks Moyes has done enough to start the new campaign at the helm.

He told Football Insider: “It’s going to be a difficult decision.

“West Ham have sacked Moyes before, and gone for a different manager in Pellegrini – and it didn’t work.

“They’ve ended up going back to someone like Moyes.

“Their recent form has been good, they’ve got a chance of winning a European trophy – I would keep Moyes.

“But, I’d be talking to another option behind the scenes. If West Ham get to October and they’re not in the top ten – then you make the change.

“I think Moyes deserves the chance to start next season.”

The Hammers are back in action on Wednesday night when they face the daunting trip to Manchester City in the Premier League.
