David Moyes sack latest: West Ham boss makes big future statement as three candidates emerge
David Moyes has spoken out on his future amid claims he is facing the West Ham sack at the end of the season.
The wily 59-year-old manager is in his second spell as Hammers boss and has helped the club reach the UEFA Conference League semi-finals. Next up they face Dutch outfit AZ Alkmaar for a place in the final, where either Fiorentina or Basel lie in wait.
However, despite steering West Ham towards what could be a first major trophy in 43 years, Moyes has found himself under intense pressure this season. Indeed, having overseen league finishes in sixth (2020/21) and seventh (2021/22) in the last two seasons, Moyes was afforded serious funds to push the Irons into the upper echelons.
Their league form, though, has deserted them this season and they currently find themselves 15th. There has been flashes of what they are capable of; not least last Sunday’s fightback to draw 2-2 with Arsenal.
However, going in the weekend’s fixtures, West Ham are only four points clear of the relegation places, albeit with a match in hand.
As such, speculation over Moyes’ future has rarely been away from the news. And while West Ham have seemingly decided to stick with the Scot until the end of the season, reports claim he could be replaced once the season ends.
Moyes, though, insists he is planning for next season and is adamant nothing has been said to him over the prospect of him leaving.
However, the former Manchester United and Everton boss does accept that even in light of their 4-1 win over Gent, he remains a man under pressure.

Moyes planning to stay at West Ham
“Every game, as a manager, you go in feeling a level of pressure,” Moyes said. “Whether you’re up the top looking for points to win a title or down the bottom needing points to stay up.”
Asked again about his future, Moyes issued a solid statement.
“I’m planning for next season. I’ve got no intention of leaving,” he said.
“I’m getting on with my job, doing everything that I do and obviously, my head’s down and focused on how I’m getting myself more points at the moment. That’s the only thing I can think about.”
The Hammers, though, have improved of late, taking eight points from their last five matches.
That has eased the pressure a little on his head and Moyes believes levels have been raised.
“Since the World Cup, our level has been much better. We’re scoring more goals and we need to keep that up,” Moyes added.
“With Thursday’s game in mind, I might make changes on Sunday as we’ve got fresh players available. We’ll have to see what we’ve got.”
Per reports, Rafa Benitez, Graham Potter and Brendan Rodgers are the three names in the frame for the Hammers if they do decide to axe Moyes.
However, sources have indicated to TEAMtalk that the Hammers board are also admirers of Vincent Kompany and are keeping tabs on the Belgian’s situation at Burnley.
