Cut-price Douglas Luiz deal on the cards for Roma due to Aston Villa star’s desires

Douglas Luiz, Aston Villa, March 2022.

Roma could complete a cut-price transfer for Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz, as the star is reportedly favouring a move away from the side.

Luiz has racked up 111 appearances for Aston Villa over the past three seasons. The midfielder has been a consistent performer for the Villans since joining from Manchester City.

However, there have been reports that he will be allowed to leave Villa. Indeed, Steven Gerrard clearly has an idea of the type of team he wants to put together.

That is reinforced by the recent marquee signing of Boubacar Kamara from Marseille. Villa bringing in another player in Luiz’s position further suggests he is surplus to requirements.

Roma have cropped up with interest in the Brazilian midfielder, and have been linked with him for some time.

Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Luiz is ‘Roma’s priority’ in the summer window. That signing could be an easy one, too, as the star reportedly wants to ‘accept a different challenge’.

With Luiz on the same page as Villa, a transfer away from the club should run smoothly.

Villa reportedly value Luiz between €30-35million (£25.5-29million).

However, the midfielder is only under contract at Villa Park until the end of next season.

With that being said, Roma could snare Luiz for a cut-price fee.

Roma a good move for Luiz

A move to Roma could be a good one for Luiz. At just 24 years of age, he has a lot of good football ahead of him, and he could become a crucial member of the side.

With Jose Mourinho interested in Luiz, he clearly sees something in the Villa man. Playing under one of the best managers in world football would no doubt bring the best out of him.

What’s more, he would be afforded an opportunity to play European football, something he has not had at Villa.

Consistent playing time at a club such as Roma could also give him opportunities in the Brazil side. Luiz has made five appearances for his country, and could well be in line for even more, should he perform well.

Indeed, a fresh start with Roma appears a good move for Luiz, should they manage to pull the deal off.
