Sean Dyche urged to axe injury-prone Everton dud as Jose Mourinho plots surprise Toffees raid

Gabby Agbonlahor has urged Everton to sell Dominic Calvert-Lewin in order to generate funds for important transfer business ahead of the coming season.
The Toffees are once again working on a tight budget and it’s clear that they need to make big improvements in attacking areas.
Everton scored just 34 goals last season and the lack of a consistent goalscoring striker has arguably been the reason why they have been in a relegation battle for the past two campaigns.
Calvert-Lewin has the quality to be a top player on his day. During his time at Everton, he has scored 60 goals in 209 appearances overall.
However, injuries have meant that Sean Dyche has been unable to rely upon the England international. Neal Maupay has also scored just one goal in 29 appearances for the Blues so far, too. As a result, the manager is looking to bring in a new striker.
Everton have already missed out on two top targets – El Bilal Toure, who has now left Almeria for Atalanta, and Moussa Dembele, who has signed for Saudi club Al Etiifaq.
Leicester City’s Kelechi Iheanacho and Salernitana’s Boulaye Dia have been discussed as alternatives. Having more transfer funds available would certainly make those deals much easier to complete, though.
Agbonlahor urges Everton to offload Calvert-Lewin
As previously reported by TEAMtalk, Roma are interested in signing Calvert-Lewin this summer, with Jose Mourinho believed to be an admirer of the striker.
As mentioned, after has two troublesome seasons at Everton, Calvert-Lewin has been limited to 36 games and seven goals as a result of frequent injury problems. Mourinho believes, though, that he can reignite his career in the Serie A.
Agbonlahor believes that this could be a win-win situation for both Everton and Roma.
“Everton should look to get a deal done as soon as possible,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider.
“If a transfer goes through then they can use the money to buy someone else.
“Calvert-Lewin’s injury problems in the past proves you can’t fully trust him as the starting striker, as he is likely to miss a large chunk of games in the Premier League.
“A new start for him somewhere else could benefit him, but either way Everton will still need two strikers.
“Everton really need to get their act together, and get busy in the transfer market, the sale of Calvert-Lewin will certainly help them do that.”
It isn’t clear how much Roma would be willing to pay for Calvert-Lewin. Signing a more reliable option could certainly benefit Everton. However, his departure would leave Dyche with just Maupay and in-demand youngster Tom Cannon as his only striker options.
With that in mind, it’s imperative Everton line up at least two new striker signings before sanctioning the sale of Calvert-Lewin. Until they do, letting the Englishman leave seems unlikely.
