Harry Maguire, Tyrone Mings and Jadon Sancho celebrate England goal

Manchester United defender Harry Maguire has been urged by his representatives to head to Italy amid interest from three of the country’s biggest clubs, while three Premier League teams are also targeting him, TEAMtalk has been told.

Maguire remains United’s captain, although he is not always a regular starter for them. Manager Erik ten Hag prefers to select Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane in central defence, while he is also able to use Victor Lindelof there.

Things will get worse for Maguire if United manage to bring a new centre-half in this summer. They have held talks with Napoli over the signing of Kim Min-jae, although he is now poised to sign for Bayern.

Due to the potential new signing, plus the fact Maguire has fallen down the pecking order, the Englishman has been heavily linked with a transfer away from Old Trafford this summer.

English clubs Tottenham, Newcastle and West Ham have been named as potential suitors. And speaking to TEAMtalk, transfer insider Graeme Bailey has confirmed those three sides are eyeing up Maguire.

Maguire’s camp are attempting to convince him on a move to Italy, where he could follow in the footsteps of Chris Smalling and potentially reignite his career – but there is a problem.

“From speaking to people with knowledge of the situation, there is a real issue at the moment with Harry Maguire, in that he does not want to leave,” Bailey said.

“His agents believe a move to Italy would suit him and there is genuine interest from the likes of Juventus, Inter and Milan. His agents think first-team football ahead of the 2024 European Championship would be ideal.

Man Utd player ‘in no hurry to leave’

“And there is interest in England with Tottenham, Newcastle and West Ham amongst those who would be keen to take him – but Maguire is in no hurry to leave.

“If Maguire doesn’t go that causes issues for United. He is on huge money and they we were working on the premise that he would be replaced, not that they would be adding another central defender to the squad.

“Some at United believe they should push ahead and bring another body in, but that is seen as a risky move by others at the club.”

Meanwhile, United could take a significant financial hit when selling one of Maguire’s team-mates to a Prem rival, according to a report.
