Bournemouth are plotting a move for Norwich City defender Andrew Omobamidele, TEAMtalk understands.

The Cherries are close to signing full-back Max Aarons from Norwich, having hijacked Leeds United’s swoop for him. And they are now considering a move for his Norwich team-mate Omobamidele.

Republic of Ireland international Omobamidele is regarded as one of the best young central defenders around after impressing for club and country in the last 12 months.

Omobamidele made 34 appearances for Norwich last season and captained them in the final six games of the campaign.

Norwich rejected a bid of over £20million from an overseas club for Omobamidele in January and they are bracing themselves for late interest in the defender before the summer transfer window slams shut at the end of the month.

A number of Premier League clubs, including Burnley, Nottingham Forest and Sheffield United, have been credited with an interest in Omobamidele. But TEAMtalk has been told Bournemouth are hoping to steal a march on their rivals by making a move for the powerful star.

Norwich are reluctant to lose Omobamidele. As he still has three years left to run on his current contract, it would take a fee of over £20m to persuade them to sell this summer.

Omobamidele has made 51 appearances for Norwich since breaking into their first team, with five of those coming in the Premier League during the 2021-22 season.
