Harry Maguire agrees Man Utd divorce package as report reveals new West Ham salary

Harry Maguire has secured a pay-off from Manchester United ahead of his move to West Ham United, a report has revealed.

West Ham recently reached an agreement in principle to sign Maguire from Man Utd. They will be paying around £30m to provide the defender with the next step of his career after he was stripped of the Man Utd captaincy.

Maguire’s future has been in doubt for several months after he fell behind Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane in the pecking order at centre-back for Man Utd last season.

While he was initially willing to fight for his place, the realisation seems to have set in that he no longer has a big part to play at Old Trafford. Subsequently, West Ham are all set to sign him.

Last month, a report claimed Maguire wanted paying off by Man Utd before leaving, in acknowledgement of the fact that he will earn a lower salary at his next club.

And an update from The Sun has revealed that Maguire has now got his wish. It is claimed that Man Utd have settled a £6m pay-off with the 30-year-old.

Maguire has been earning £190,000 per week from Man Utd, whereas West Ham will only be paying him £120,000 per week, according to the report.

There were two years remaining on his contract in Manchester, so Maguire would have been missing out on potential millions in earnings. Now, though, Man Utd have covered the gap so that he can embark on his new challenge with West Ham.

Maguire convinced by Rice to join West Ham

Another interesting revelation in the report is that, via lengthy talks, Declan Rice has helped Maguire choose West Ham as his next destination.

Rice left the Hammers when making a club-record transfer to Arsenal earlier this summer. However, he may still have had an influence on them by persuading his England teammate to go there.

The funds West Ham have received by cashing in on their captain will surely have helped them afford a package for Maguire.

Coincidentally, there have also been predictions that Maguire could even inherit the West Ham captaincy from Rice, since a permanent successor as skipper has still not been announced.

The Hammers have, though, secured a replacement for Rice tactically, by announcing Edson Alvarez as their first summer signing on Thursday.

And TEAMtalk understands they are also in talks to sign Elye Wahi from Montpellier or Folarin Balogun from Arsenal as they aim to reinforce up front following the sale of Gianluca Scamacca to Atalanta.

Man Utd, meanwhile, will need to find a replacement for Maguire. In that regard, some of their main targets could include Benjamin Pavard from Bayern Munich and Jean-Clair Todibo from Nice.

Earlier this summer, they were interested in Kim Min-jae, but he went to Bayern Munich from Napoli instead.
