David Moyes tipped to axe top West Ham star in shock decision, as pundit makes Man Utd connection

A pundit reckons David Moyes could take the surprise decision to drop Jarrod Bowen amid his struggles in the Premier League recently.

The winger was in great form last season, registering 18 goals and 13 assists in all competitions. This helped West Ham finish seventh in the league and reach the last four of the Europa Conference League, where they lost to eventual winners Eintracht Frankfurt.

Bowen’s impressive campaign has also seen him become part of the England squad. He is on four caps so far but is yet to register his first strike for the Three Lions.

Bowen hasn’t hit the ground running this term and is yet to score in the Prem. He has done so in the Europa Conference League, but this was against easier opposition.

Moyes has decent options in attack following a summer of spending. Maxwel Cornet joined the club from Burnley and could replace Bowen, should their manager decide to change things up.

That is exactly what pundit Noel Whelan believes will happen if Bowen doesn’t turn things around.

Whelan drew comparisons between Bowen and Manchester United pair Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho. While the West Ham ace has seen his form drop off, Rashford and Sancho are looking much better and could therefore get in the England World Cup squad ahead of him.

During an interview with online outlet Football Insider, Whelan said: “There are a lot of people that have upped their game over the last two seasons.

Jarrod Bowen may lose starting place

“West Ham have been very successful and he [Bowen] has been a massive part of that success in winning football matches.

“It’s been a slow start for West Ham this year and most of their players.

“Jarrod Bowen will be seeing Rashford scoring, Sancho scoring and will want to be getting into that form he had for the last couple of seasons.

“If you’re not in form, then you place in the squad is up for grabs for someone else. Rashford has been in the squad many, many times and Sancho has been in the squad many, many times.

“He is under pressure, there’s no doubt about it. He’s a very talented player but he hasn’t got his Premier League game going yet.”

Bowen will certainly be looking to get among the goals when West Ham return to action. They face Wolves at home on Saturday.

The 25-year-old then needs to follow that up with a string of good performances, which should include some goals too.

Otherwise, he might not lose just his England place, but he could also be left on the bench by Moyes.

In addition, it will also be interesting to see how the Scot handles the striker battle between Michail Antonio and summer arrival Gianluca Scamacca.

Antonio has proven he is able to lead the line effectively for West Ham, all while being the only striker at the club.

That is no longer the case and Italy international Scamacca is looking to make the spot his own. However, the 23-year-old still has some work to do.

He has been in good form in Europe, netting three times in four outings. But just like Bowen, Scamacca is yet to score in the Prem.

Meanwhile, Antonio has spoken about the hardest player he has faced, as well as his best West Ham team-mate.
