Juventus have stepped up their pursuit of a Liverpool defensive target by placing an offer, if the latest reports are to be believed.

Reports earlier in the week claimed the Reds were ready to strongly pursue centre-back Jean-Clair Todibo from Toulouse in January.

Tuttosport suggested that the 18-year-old is attracting the interest of some of Europe’s biggest hitters, with Juventus, Borussia Dortmund, Lyon and RB Leipzig also in the running for his signature.

Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez have formed an impressive central defensive partnership for the Reds this season, while Dejan Lovren and Joe Matip are also battling for starting spots.

The latter’s injury issues are prompting Klopp to look at alternatives though – and it would appear that Todibo is very much on his radar.

However, they likely face competition, as Serie A giants Juventus have submitted an offer to sign Todibo in January, according to a report from Calciomercato.com.

The centre-half has played 10 times in Ligue 1 and has still to sign a professional contract at Toulouse, sparking significant interest in the 6ft 2in powerhouse as he could be available in a cut-price deal in January.

The report claims that Juve “can sign the player by paying the training parameters that FIFA have imposed” and it will “not be a problem for the Old Lady”.
