Liverpool laugh off giant £100m-plus Salah bid, but Al-Ittihad hatch worrying new plan
Liverpool have quickly rejected a whopping £100m-plus bid from Al-Ittihad for Mohamed Salah, though the Saudi Arabian side aren’t finished yet, per multiple sources.
Al-Ittihad harbour ambitions of prising Liverpool’s most potent attacking weapon out of Anfield. A gigantic bid had long been expected and according to both Fabrizio Romano and David Ornstein, it has now been received.
Ornstein claimed Al-Ittihad verballed offered Liverpool ‘£100million plus substantial add-ons’ during an amicable call with Liverpool director Mike Gordon on Thursday night.
Romano claimed the bid was a formal one, not verbal, though the end result is the same – Liverpool have emphatically said no.
The two trusted journalists both insisted Liverpool have no intention of selling and their stance will not change.
Emboldening their stance is the fact the English transfer deadline expires at 11pm tonight, meaning there’ll be very little time to sign an adequate replacement if moving Salah on.
However, the Saudi Pro League deadline will remain open until September 7. As such, that throws up the possibility of Liverpool losing Salah after the English deadline and being denied the chance to spend the money until January.
Ornstein stressed Liverpool ‘consider the case closed’. However, Al-Ittihad have other ideas.
Indeed, the Saudi side ‘are expected to maintain a strong interest’ and could return with an even bigger bid either later today or in the period between the English and Saudi transfer deadlines closing.
