Tottenham must launch immediate bid to sign Son favourite after player is ‘offered’ to Atletico Madrid in mega cheap deal

Son Heung-min of Tottenham

Tottenham must act extremely fast if they are to win the race for one of Son Heung-min’s international team-mates after he was ‘offered’ to Atletico Madrid, as per a report.

Son joined Tottenham from Bayer Leverkusen for a reported £22million in August 2015. He has gone on to become something of a legend at the club, having netted 145 goals in 369 appearances and struck up a deadly attacking partnership with Harry Kane.

The left winger, who can also operate at centre-forward, has not had his best season when compared with his usual output. However, he has got back to his best recently, registering four goals in his last six Premier League matches.

Son will be devastated if Kane leaves the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and there is a real chance of that happening. Manchester United are big admirers of the England skipper and are hoping to make him their new number nine, replacing Wout Weghorst and Anthony Martial.

One exciting striker who might replace Kane at Spurs is Brighton ace Evan Ferguson. He is just 18 years old but has led the line brilliantly when he has played this season. Plus, the teenager has chipped in with eight goals in 20 matches.

Son might form a lethal new forward trio with Ferguson and one of his South Korea compatriots if Kane heads to Man Utd. On April 29, it emerged Spurs were ‘in the lead’ to sign Lee Kang-in from Mallorca.

Lee is a 22-year-old attacking midfielder who can also play as a winger on either flank. He has put in some electric performances in Spain this term, hence the interest from Spurs.

Spurs recently found out they would have to battle Diego Simeone’s Atleti for Lee. And Spanish outlet AS have now provided an update on the player’s future.

Tottenham behind La Liga giants in forward chase

They reveal how Spurs must submit an immediate bid for Lee if they hope to win the race for him as Mallorca have ‘offered’ his services to Atleti.

The Madrid-based club are currently evaluating whether to take Mallorca up on this opportunity. They already have Spain U21 international Rodrigo Riquelme on their books, and he can play in the same positions as Lee.

Atleti may decide to bring Lee in as well as having Riquelme due to his very cheap price tag. He is available for just €17m (£14.7m) this summer, which represents a bargain in the current market for someone who has done so well in Spain’s top flight.

Spurs will be hoping Atleti snub the opportunity to capture Lee and instead prioritise giving game time to Riquelme. But if Atleti press ahead with their bid to sign Lee, then Spurs must swoop in with an immediate transfer hijack.

Son would likely work extremely well alongside Lee due to their good relationship. They have played together for South Korea on several occasions, including during the friendlies against Colombia and Uruguay earlier this year.

Spurs have also been credited with an interest in South Korea and Napoli centre-back Kim Min-jae. However, Man Utd are poised to win the race for the dominant defender.

Meanwhile, Thursday’s Euro Paper Talk includes Spurs finding their replacement for Hugo Lloris in Italy.
