Liverpool tipped to send dizzying offer to Arsenal for ‘the best’ Salah replacement they could possibly get

Liverpool have been tipped to replace Mohamed Salah with Bukayo Saka

Liverpool should aim to sign Bukayo Saka from Arsenal after cashing in on Mohamed Salah, it has been claimed by Paul Merson.

The transfer window has closed in England, but it remains open in Saudi Arabia, which means Liverpool are still at risk of losing Salah. Al-Ittihad are going to extraordinary lengths to sign the Egypt international, though his current employers are standing firm.

Liverpool have rejected a £150m bid by Al-Ittihad for Salah. However, the Saudi champions – who also signed Fabinho earlier this summer – could come back in with an improved offer at £200m.

In that case, Liverpool would be under pressure to accept Salah’s exit, even if they would have to wait until January to fill the void he would be leaving in their attack.

When that time comes, the target they should be going all in for, according to Merson, is Saka.

Merson said on Sky Sports: “They sell him for £200million and then in January, see if they can get Saka from Arsenal for £150m.

“I’m thinking, one person’s 31, if I can get £200m, who’s the next one in line? Who’s going to be the next big thing on the right wing?”

Saka second only to Salah on right wing

The former Arsenal star continued: “Who’s the next one in line? It’s definitely Saka. He’s the best right winger about, but after Salah.

“So if you were Liverpool, you’re trading in someone who’s a little bit older, for someone who’s younger.

“I think they’d go rock the boat with Arsenal and say, here you are, here’s £150m for someone.

“What they’ve done at Liverpool at the moment, they’ve got rid of all the older midfield players and they’ve brought in all younger players.”

Saka is 10 years younger than Salah, but remains under contract with Arsenal until 2027 after signing an extension with the club back in May.

Whether Arsenal would willingly do business with a club competing for a similar position in the Premier League table remains to be seen. Accepting a £150m offer for Saka would comfortably make him their most expensive export of all time.

Funnily enough, that record currently belongs to Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who also went to Liverpool when it was his turn to leave the Gunners.

Reports have previously suggested that Arsenal will address Saka’s future again in 2025, which would mean Liverpool would likely have to sign someone else to immediately take over from Salah.
