Man Utd announce deal with ‘one of the best attacking players in the world’ who ‘couldn’t be more excited’

Marcus Rashford and Erik ten Hag of Man Utd

Manchester United have finally confirmed that Marcus Rashford has signed a new contract with the club, where he will now be staying until 2028.

Rashford was within the final year of his previous contract with Man Utd, who have been hoping to tie down his future after the most prolific season of his career so far.

In recent weeks, it has become clear that Man Utd have been closing in on a new deal for Rashford, who has been in line to become their top earner at £375,000 per week.

Last week, links with PSG resurfaced at an untimely moment, but the initial optimism that Rashford would be remaining at Man Utd has now been justified.

At 5pm BST on Tuesday, Man Utd announced that Rashford has signed a new contract for another five years.

The attacker told their official website: “I joined Manchester United as a seven-year-old boy with a dream. That same passion, pride, and determination to succeed still drives me every time I have the honour of wearing the shirt.

“I’ve already had some amazing experiences at this incredible club, but there is still a lot more to achieve and I remain relentlessly determined to win more trophies in the years ahead.

“As a United fan all my life, I know the responsibility that comes with representing this badge and feel the highs and lows as much as anyone. I can assure you that I will give everything to help the team reach the level we are capable of, and I can feel the same determination around the dressing room.

“I couldn’t be more excited for the future under this manager.”

Murtough labels Rashford ‘one of the best’

Man Utd’s football director, John Murtough, added: “Ever since he joined our Academy 18 years ago, Marcus has epitomised what it takes to succeed as a Manchester United player.

“He is a brilliant talent but also humble, dedicated and driven. As he enters his prime years, we know there is still so much more to come from him, and we can see the hunger that Marcus feels to achieve the highest levels of success here at Manchester United.

“Working with Erik ten Hag and his coaches is the perfect environment for Marcus to continue to develop into one of the best attacking players in the world.”

After getting 30 goals for Man Utd last season, Rashford now has 123 for the club since emerging from the academy in the 2015-16 season.

Ten Hag will still be able to rely on the club’s number 10 as the second season of his project as Man Utd manager gets underway.

Nevertheless, Man Utd are in the market for a more natural centre-forward, which has led them to pursue Rasmus Hojlund from Atalanta.
