Man Utd eye three more signings after Hojlund, with shock Everton raid back on

Everton centre-back Jarrad Branthwaite

Everton centre-back Jarrad Branthwaite is wanted by Man Utd

The three positions Man Utd intend to address after signing Rasmus Hojlund have been revealed, and one area could be filled by a thriving Everton star, per a report.

The Red Devils have already signed Andre Onana and Mason Mount to revamp their goalkeeping and central midfield positions. Rasmus Hojlund will do the same at centre-forward after United struck an agreement worth £72m including add-ons with Atalanta.

However, according to a report from the Daily Mail, not only will the business not end there, but there could be as many as three further arrivals.

The newspaper state that in lieu of their Hojlund breakthrough, Man Utd have quickly turned their attention to signing a back-up to Onana, a centre-half and a holding midfielder.

The Mail’s report focuses primarily on the potential defender and midfield deals. Regarding the latter, £25m-rated Sofyan Amrabat of Fiorentina once again gets a mention.

The Moroccan is the player Fabrizio Romano has stressed is atop Erik ten Hag’s shortlist. However, players exits for one or more of Fred, Scott McTominay and Donny van de Beek are required first.

In the event Amrabat eludes Man Utd, Southampton ace Romeo Lavia is in their sights. But with Liverpool primed to lodge a £45m bid, Man Utd would have to move quickly.

Regarding centre-half, Man Utd have already seen their top two options snapped up by other clubs.

Kim Min-jae was courted before signing with Bayern Munich. That led to Monaco’s Axel Disasi emerging in United’s crosshairs, though the Frenchman has since agreed to join Chelsea.

Now, according to the Mail, Nice’s Jean-Clair Todibo and Jarrad Branthwaite of Everton are next in line.

Man Utd explore options No 3 and 4

Todibo was initially indexed to Man Utd once Bayern swooped for Kim. Per the report, the ‘much-improved’ 23-year-old has ‘come back into the reckoning’ at Old Trafford.

But the bigger eyebrow-raiser would be a surprise move for Everton’s rising defender, Jarrad Branthwaite.

The 21-year-old has featured for England’s Under-21s in 2023 and earned his call-up on the back of a breakthrough campaign in the Netherlands.

Branthwaite – who stands at an imposing 6ft 5in tall – excelled while loaned to PSV Eindhoven. His displays were of such a high standard that former PSV boss, Ruud van Nistelrooy, tried in vain to sign Branthwaite outright during the winter window.

Branthwaite would represent a depth piece for Man Utd and as a left-footer, he’d provide cover for Lisandro Martinez. Of course, a move for a new centre-half may first rely on finding a buyer for Harry Maguire.

A report from Football Insider in late-June claimed Branthwaite had asked to leave Everton amid growing links to Man Utd. Liverpool and West Ham have also been credited with interest in the player.

No potential transfer fee was cited in the Mail’s piece. However, given the stage of his career Branthwaite is at, logic would dictate he won’t cost a huge fee to sign.
