Manchester United-linked goalkeeper Andre Onana in action for Inter

Manchester United have reportedly made an offer for Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana — their number one target to replace David de Gea.

Erik ten Hag is currently scrambling to find a new shot-stopper after the Spaniard left the club last Friday. But, it is proving to be difficult.

Indeed, Man Utd seem determined to sign Onana this summer. But, despite their latest offer, Inter will not budge on their price tag of €60m (£51m).

Last season, the 27-year-old made 41 appearances across all competitions for the Nerazzurri. In the process, he kept 19 clean sheets.

Onana was particularly impressive in the Champions League when he kept a clean sheet in eight of his 13 appearances. That was a key factor in Inter reaching the final of the competition.

With that in mind, it’s no surprise to see Man Utd pushing for his signature, considering they will be competing in the Champions League next term.

Another reason Ten Hag is keen on Onana is his ability to play out from the back. The Cameroon international has an excellent passing range, something the top keepers in the Premier League, such as Ederson and Allisson, are also good at.

However, as mentioned, they may find it difficult to complete a deal for him.

Man Utd learn Onana transfer deadline

According to Sky Sports Italia (via Football Italia), Man Utd have made an offer in the region of €45m (£38.5m) to sign Onana.

As mentioned, this falls short of Inter’s asking price for the goalkeeper. They have stated that they will not accept less than €60m (£51m) for the shot-stopper.

Onana is under contract at the San Siro until 2027, too. So, Inter are under no immediate pressure to sell him.

However, conflicting reports suggest that a bid in excess of €50m could be enough to convince the Italian club to part ways with Onana.

This is because they are looking to generate funds for their own transfer business. For example, they seem desperate to re-sign Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku this summer.

But, if Man Utd want to sign Onana this summer, they need to move quickly

That is according to Sky Sports Italia pundit Alfredo Pedulla. He claims that Inter will not listen to offers for the goalkeeper after July 20.

Therefore, if Man Utd don’t raise their bid by that date, the Cameroonian will remain at the San Siro for at least one more season.

With that in mind, it will be interesting to see if the Red Devils make an offer over €50m in the next couple of weeks.
