Man Utd hold talks with Barcelona for defensive prospect wanted by Liverpool

Jean-Clair Todibo TEAMtalk

Manchester United are pondering making a move for Jean-Clair Todibo at Barcelona, according to a report in Spain.

Friday’s Sport via Sport Witness claims the 19-year-old has a number of offers on the table, but United have “entered very strong” for the defender.

The report claims United representatives travelled to Catalonia this week to hold talks with the LaLiga champions over a move for the France U20 player.

Todibo has struggled for minutes since agreeing to join Barcelona in January from Toulouse as a free agent. Todibo only officially joined Barca on July 1 and he has struggled to get game time with just three appearances this season.

It’s claimed that Todibo has still caught the eye of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who is looking to build a squad with talented youngsters.

United are prepared to offer around €20m for the centre-back and Barca are open to a sale, although they will insist on a buyback option. Apparently though United are not keen on the clause and will insist the deal will be done without a buyback option.

Last month a report in Mundo Deportivo, as cited by Calciomercato, claimed Todibo was looking to quit the Catalan giants in January.

There were significant rumours that AC Milan were eager to sign Todibo, but the report added they are now facing strong competition from four different clubs – Bayer Leverkusen, Watford, Southampton and AS Monaco – for the youngster.

Tuttosport claimed Liverpool and Juventus were ready to pay €3-4million in compensation to get the player on board before his move to Barcelona.
