Man Utd lead charge to sign midfield beast as Ten Hag rules out second signing and duo are savagely put up for sale

Manchester United are reportedly ready to make a firm approach to sign a Wolves star with Erik ten Hag set to make some bold transfer decisions in midfield this summer.

The Red Devils are enjoying a terrific season under the Dutchman’s leadership. Having spent well over £200m in the summer window, there were some who questioned the wisdom in spending such hefty fees on the likes of Lisandro Martinez and Antony.

However, few are questioning his judgement now with the club in with a shout of winning three trophies this season. Indeed, trophy No 1 is already in the bag after success in the Carabao Cup. And they could yet add to the their haul with the club through to the latter stages of the FA Cup and Europa League.

Target No 1 for the club, though, was always sealing a return to the Champions League. And with Manchester United currently in third place, they look well on track to achieve that goal.

Now the United manager is planning further additions during the summer window. And while the club’s proposed takeover is in a state of chaos, at least three huge signings will still likely be targeted.

Up first at United is a new, top-class centre forward. And much has been written about their plans to snare either Harry Kane, Victor Osimhen or Goncalo Ramos this summer.

However, Ten Hag is also in the market for a serious midfield upgrade too.

The Red Devils signed both Casemiro and Christian Eriksen last summer to bolster their options. The Brazilian has certainly proved a classy addition. Now, finding the perfect player alongside him is something United will look to address this summer.

Man Utd ready to make Ruben Neves swoop

A number of potential names have been linked with Frenkie de Jong perhaps most frequently mentioned. However, the Barcelona star has continually dodged overtures from United. And while Barca’s financial position may yet dictate the Spaniard’s agenda once again, the Red Devils will be wary about another prolonged and, ultimately fruitless, chase.

Instead, they are reportedly considering a number of other options.

Indeed, recent reports claim Ten Hag has a growing admiration for a former Liverpool flop now starring on the continent.

However, they are reportedly set to look much closer to home with Football Insider claiming Ruben Neves is now their No 1 target.

The 26-year-old Portuguese star is likely to leave Wolves this summer with his deal expiring in 2024. Demand for the midfield beast, though, is high, with the Old Gold still looking for a sizeable fee for Neves.

Liverpool and Barcelona are among his suitors – but now Football Insider claims it is United who are most hot on his trail.

Per reports, Ten Hag wants to sign Neves ahead of a potential permanent deal for Marcel Sabitzer. The Austrian joined the Red Devils on loan from Bayern Munich in January.

And he has already made clear his wish to make his temporary stay permanent. But reports claim Ten Hag would instead prefer to bring in  Neves – and will send Sabitzer back to Bayern if he can pull off the Portuguese’s signing.

United ready to sell two more stars this summer

As part of a busy summer at United, the club are also preparing to wave farewell to a number of players who do not figure in Ten Hag’s plans.

And while the United boss still sees a role for Scott McTominay, he is reportedly willing to cash in if a sizeable offer arrives.

Indeed, Newcastle saw a January bid for McTominay fail. However, the Magpies are reportedly considering a fresh move to sign him this summer.

To that end, reports claim Ten Hag will look to sell the Scotland midfielder if an offer worth around £40m comes in.

He won’t be the only departure at Old Trafford either, with a number of other stars also up for grabs.

And one man who has become something of a forgotten figure at Old Trafford in Brandon Williams, will also be put up for sale.

He has fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford. And the 22-year-old is now fourth choice behind Luke Shaw, Tyrell Malacia and another forgotten man in Alex Telles.

As such, he is reportedly up for sale with United looking for between £5m – £7.5m for his signature. A number of Championship sides are reportedly keen, with Norwich among his suitors.

But there is also interest from Southampton too. And Saints are reportedly looking to pounce if they suffer relegation to the second tier.
