Man Utd make stunning enquiry for UCL finalist as Ten Hag considers star’s permanent position change

Federico Dimarco and Bernardo Silva

Manchester United have told Inter they are interested in signing Federico Dimarco, according to a report that has explained why Erik ten Hag is thinking about the move.

Dimarco was one of Inter’s best players in the Champions League final against Man City, but of course ended up on the losing side. Now, the Serie A side are under pressure to raise funds by selling some of their top talents. Understandably, their left-back has caught the attention of several clubs.

According to some new information from the Independent, Man Utd are one of the suitors to have come forward for Dimarco. In fact, they are said to have revealed their interest directly to his current employers.

At left-back, Ten Hag can already call upon Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia. Therefore, it isn’t an obvious area that Man Utd need to strengthen this summer.

However, Shaw started to play at centre-back occasionally this season. According to the report, that is one of the reasons Ten Hag is considering a deal for Dimarco.

The other main motivations are that Dimarco is versatile himself, while there could be an opportunity to get him at a good value-for-money price because of the pressure Inter are under.

Real Madrid are also apparently keen on Dimarco, though, which may complicate the chances of Man Utd signing him. TEAMtalk recently revealed that Ferland Mendy could leave Los Blancos this summer, so they would need to find a replacement on the left-hand side of defence.

After all, when Mendy has been unavailable for Madrid, one of their main solutions has been to use Eduardo Camavinga away from his natural position of midfield.

Man Utd adjust transfer plans to target Dimarco

As things stand, then, it appears to be a two-horse race between Man Utd and Real Madrid for Dimarco. The Independent suggests there may be wider interest, but those two clubs are focusing most on him at the moment.

Man Utd’s main objective going into this transfer window was to sign a centre-forward. But the high market values of players in that position has sent them back to the drawing board.

Now, they are thinking about how to strengthen in defence. For example, they were pursuing a deal for Napoli’s Kim Min-jae, who now seems to be bound for Bayern Munich instead.

Alternatives are on their radar, but perhaps one solution would be to push Shaw more central before bidding for Dimarco to reinforce the left flank of their defence.

Otherwise, Ten Hag might have a new tactical plan up his sleeve involving Dimarco – who, interestingly, is not the only left-back to have been linked with Man Utd recently.

Indeed, earlier this month, AC Milan’s Theo Hernandez was namechecked as a potential Man Utd target.

It seems they could be focusing on Serie A as a league where there could be some opportunities to snap up talented players.

Tuesday’s European transfer gossip has also suggested Man Utd are looking at one of Dimarco’s Inter teammates to strengthen their midfield.
