Man Utd transfers: Improved offer for midfielder coming after shocking value of initial bid revealed

Fred being challenged by Fabinho

Man Utd are set to receive a new bid from Galatasaray for Fred after a report in Turkey revealed just how low their opening attempt to sign him was.

Fred is almost certain to leave Man Utd this summer, despite just enduring the busiest season of his career. Other moves in the Man Utd midfield could push him back down the pecking order, while the fact he only has one year remaining on his contract could play into the hands of his suitors trying to take him elsewhere.

Fulham are interested in Fred, but Galatasaray recently made an offer to take him to Turkey. Not meeting expectations, it was turned down by Man Utd.

However, an update from Aksam has revealed that Galatasaray will try their luck again. Even though their first bid was the highest on the table so far, they are going to have to raise it.

Somewhat surprisingly, the value of the first bid has been revealed to be just €5m (£4.3m). It would have represented a major loss on the reported £47m they spent to sign him from Shakhtar Donetsk in 2018.

Granted, Fred’s contract situation – and the fact he is now 30 years old – impacts his value. However, he should be worth more than what has been on offer so far.

How high Galatasaray are willing to go with their second bid is not yet specified. Nevertheless, they are refusing to give up on their pursuit of the Brazil international.

In fact, the Super Lig champions have put their interest in signing World Cup winner Leandro Paredes from Paris Saint-Germain (after an unsuccessful loan spell at Juventus) to one side in order to focus on Fred.

Fred wants to leave Man Utd

They are backed with the belief that Fred wants to leave Man Utd this summer. After 213 appearances for the Red Devils, it might be time for a new challenge.

Galatasaray could provide him with it as they aim to construct a squad that will be able to make an impression in the Champions League next season.

If he was to stay at Man Utd, Fred would have to compete with Casemiro, Mason Mount, Christian Eriksen and Bruno Fernandes for a place in midfield, plus anyone else the club manage to sign.

Sofyan Amrabat from Fiorentina is one of the potential targets to have been linked with Man Utd as a possible successor to Fred.

Scott McTominay, who used to be Fred’s main midfield partner, also looks likely to be on his way out of Old Trafford this summer, as does Donny van de Beek.
