Erik ten Hag is being told to consider bringing back Romelu Lukaku to Manchester United this summer with his return to Old Trafford deemed a perfect solution for all parties.

The powerful Belgian striker has been told he has no future at Chelsea under Mauricio Pochettino with his £97.5m return to the club yielding a mere 15 goals. And while he spent the 2022/23 season on loan back at former club Inter Milan, his future remains very much a big issue to solve for Chelsea with just two weeks left before the window shuts.

A return to Inter has seemingly been taken off the table after Lukaku opened negotiations with their fierce rivals Juventus. The Nerazzurri were left raging at the 30-year-old’s decision to talk terms with the Old Lady, subsequently calling off their plans to sign him.

Unfortunately for Lukaku, Juventus are now struggling to match Chelsea’s modest €40m (£34m) asking price, leaving the big striker in a state of limbo.

There has been suggestions that Tottenham could look to sign Lukaku as a replacement for Harry Kane. But Spurs appear to be heading in other directions with a €30m deal for a talented Nigerian gathering pace.

However, former United striker Dwight Yorke feels United should enquire about bringing Lukaku back to Old Trafford.

The Red Devils relied heavily on Marcus Rashford last season, with the England striker netting 30 times. But after him, no nother United attacker broke into double figures, presenting Ten Hag with something of a quandary.

The Dutchman has since looked to address the issue by signing Rasmus Hojlund for £72m. But the Dane is a largely-unproven option, with just 27 career goals to his name so far.

Man Utd told to bring Romelu Lukaku back

That is why Yorke believes a move to bring Lukaku back to Old Trafford would be a shrewd move. As far as Yorke is concerned, Lukaku would give United a guarantee of goals and provide cover and competition in attack.

“Romelu Lukaku is absolutely still good enough to play for a top-six club,” Yorke told OLBG.

“I think Man United or Tottenham should take Lukaku on a short-term loan deal and agree to pay a certain amount of his wages.

“As much as people say about Lukaku, he has a very impressive goalscoring record and he doesn’t get as much credit as he deserves.

“If you have a fired-up Lukaku who wants to play for you, he’s a match-winner and a handful for any opponent in the world.

“Man United have invested heavily in Rasmus Hojlund, but if you want to compete with the best then Lukaku is that player who can score 15 to 20 goals in a season, which is priceless and hard to find in today’s game.

“Lukaku is still only 30-years-old and a proven goalscorer, I think whoever gets him on a short loan deal will have done good and subtle business.”

Lukaku scored 42 goals in 96 games for United across two seasons from 2017-2019 before being deemed surplus to requirements by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

He continued that rich vein of form at Inter, netting an impressive 64 goals in 95 games before Chelsea shattered their transfer record to bring him back to the Premier League.

But that move was always destined to fail with Lukaku widely making clear he did not want to leave the San Siro.
