Moyes ecstatic as West Ham pull off outstanding €44.5m coup, beating Chelsea to world-class attacker
West Ham linked Ajax player Mohammed Kudus
West Ham United have reportedly signed Ajax attacker Mohammed Kudus on a five-year contract after agreeing a fee of €44.5m with the Dutch club.
The Ghana international has been in fine form for Ajax recently, catching the attention of some of the biggest clubs in Europe.
David Moyes has wanted to sign Kudus for some time, and it seems the West Ham boss has finally got his man despite facing competition for his signature.
He enjoyed a fantastic 2022/23 season with Ajax, scoring 18 goals and making seven assists in 42 appearances across all competitions.
As reported by TEAMtalk, Chelsea considered a move for Kudus after Michael Olise snubbed them in favour of staying with Crystal Palace.
West Ham have beaten the Blues to his signature, though, and the Ajax star looks set to play a key role in Moyes’ team.
The Hammers have got off to a great start this season, winning two and drawing one of their opening three matches. Now, Moyes will hope that Kudus can help his team stay at the top of the Premier League table.

Ornstein: West Ham complete Kudus signing
According to reputed transfer journalist David Ornstein, West Ham have now signed Kudus on a long term contract.
On Twitter, Ornstein said: “Mohammed Kudus has signed for West Ham United. The 23-year-old attacking midfielder has put pen to paper on a five year contract, with the option for a sixth.
West Ham are paying Ajax €41.5m (£35.6m) plus €3m (£2.6m) in add-ons. The deal for the Ghana international also includes 10% sell-on to #Ajax. Official announcement will be later today or tomorrow.”
A versatile player, Kudus has the ability to play as an attacking midfielder or as a winger on either flank, so will provide cover in several areas for West Ham this season.
He also has plenty of experience in Europe. He has made nine appearances in the Champions League to date, as well as eight in the Europa League (including qualifying rounds).
With West Ham looking to follow up a historic Europa Conference League victory with a solid Europa League campaign this season, Kudus’ experience will be valuable.
The other obvious benefit of signing Kudus is his ability to create and score goals, so he could help take the Hammers to the next level this term.
