Pochettino gifted glorious chance to bring former star back to Chelsea as ‘agent’ Reece James gets to work on deal
AS Roma centre-forward Tammy Abraham has revealed in a recent interview that Reece James ‘always’ tells him to return to Chelsea.
The England international ditched London for Rome back in 2021 and overall, he has performed very well under Jose Mourinho.
However, there is currently speculation surrounding his future, with a number of English sides interested in bringing Abraham back to the Premier League.
Indeed, as noted by TEAMtalk, Aston Villa, Liverpool and Newcastle all have the striker on their radar. Roma are reportedly willing to sell Abraham for the right price, too.
Interestingly, Chelsea have a buy-back clause of €80m (£70.3m) in Abraham’s deal with the Italian giants. So, Roma would be powerless to stop Abraham leaving if the Blues paid that amount.
Chelsea are certainly in need of a quality centre-forward. Since signing for Roma, Abraham has scored 36 goals in 106 appearances so far. Therefore, re-signing Abraham could be a smart move.
Ultimately, though, it will be soon-to-be Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino’s decision, even if Reece James is desperate to reunite with Abraham next season.

Abraham: ‘James always tells me to come back’
Indeed, in a recent interview with SMW (as cited by TuttoMercatoWeb), Abraham revealed that he is still in close contact with his old Chelsea teammates, adding that James ‘always’ tells him to come back.
He said: “Just before I left Chelsea, Tomori went to Milan and we talked a lot. I remember the phone calls, neither of us could believe what was happening.
“We had been at Chelsea for our whole lives and at one moment we were leaving. Everything I knew about Chelsea apart from a few loan transfers, but I still think that was the right time to leave.
“I was ready to take a step forward in my career. I didn’t want to be considered a youngster or a footballer who came from the academy, for me it was time to spread my wings.
“I still talk to many Chelsea players, James always tells me to come back…. We grew up together as a group and have known each other for years. Players like Mount, Rice and Nketiah grew up with me in the same environment.
“We’ve played tournaments, travelled together – it’s special to see them grow and how far we’ve come. We took different paths, but we still share those memories.
“I’m expecting a baby and that’s the most important thing, then I’ll think about where to go this summer.
“America is always in my head but we’ll probably choose more of a family-friendly place for the baby to come.”
