Man Utd icon told to ditch ‘disrespectful’ Ten Hag as insider states replacement deal is ‘really close’

David de Gea, Marcus Rashford, Manchester United, April 2023

Gabby Agbonlahor feels David de Gea should leave Manchester United due to “disrespect”, as Fabrizio Romano states a deal for Andre Onana is “really close”.

United have had the services of De Gea to call upon for 12 years. His time at the club has seen him rack up 545 appearances, winning honours such as the Premier League, Europa League and the FA Cup.

He also won the Premier League golden glove last season – the second time he’s won the award. While that would suggest a good season, he’s certainly had better.

And while it had any bearing on United’s contract offer to him has any bearing is unclear, they reportedly asked him to take a pay cut to remain at the club at the end of his deal, which has now run out.

Things are now up in the air. It’s unclear if he’s still in negotiations with the club or he’s decided not to put pen to paper on a new deal, which it’s been suggested he’ll sign on a number of occasions.

A few weeks ago, it was reported De Gea had decided to leave the club at the conclusion of his deal.

Which of those reports are accurate is still unclear. It’s also been suggested De Gea could join up with Cristiano Ronaldo at Al Nassr, as they’ve apparently offered him a deal.

He’d be the latest of a host of Premier League players that have decided to up sticks for Saudi Arabia this summer.

De Gea told to ditch United after ‘disrespect’

Reports regarding De Gea’s contract began months ago. This process is one that has been strung out for a long time from the first suggestions that he was in talks with renewing.

Former Premier League striker Agbonlahor feels De Gea deserves more from the club amid the drawn out process, and should look to leave regardless.

“If I was De Gea I would pack my boots from Carrington and look for another club,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider.

“He’s been there over 10 years and disrespect like that as a senior pro, just says all that is wrong with Manchester United at the moment.

“No other top club would treat their star player who has been at the club for 10 years terribly and De Gea deserves better.”

Romano confirms Onana deal is ‘really close’

There are question marks over whether De Gea would be the started next season if he was to remain. United have been courting Inter Milan goalkeeper Onana, and it’s unlikely they’d sign him if he wasn’t going to be first choice.

That’s a signing that’s progressing well, with transfer insider Romano stating it’s nearly over the line.

Indeed, he says it’s ‘really close’, as a positive round of talks have occurred, before a ‘final bid’ from United.

He goes on to say the deal ‘will be sealed’ by the end of next week. Whether or not that makes up De Gea’s mind remains to be seen.
