The details of how Al-Ittihad are willing to structure their bid to Liverpool for Mohamed Salah have been revealed in the latest update.

Al-Ittihad are trying to sign Salah as the latest marquee addition to the Saudi Pro League after also buying Fabinho from Liverpool earlier this summer. The stance from Salah’s current employers is that he is not for sale, while his agent has denied he is looking to leave, but reports continue to hint he could be on his way to the Middle East.

According to the latest from CBS Sports, Al-Ittihad are set to test Liverpool’s resolve. The Saudi champions are preparing a package that will come to €150m (approximately £129m) – of which around £86m would be guaranteed.

The remainder of the transfer fee would be made up of bonuses, although not all of them would be easily activated. Nevertheless, even the base fee would make Salah the most expensive signing in Saudi Pro League history.

Furthermore, there are plans for Salah to earn a similar wage to the current highest earners in the division, including Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar. The package would eclipse what he gets from Liverpool, but it should not be overlooked that he is already his current club’s best-paid player of all time.

There are still two years remaining on the record Liverpool contract Salah signed before the start of last season. But fears have been growing that his 308th appearance for the club over the weekend could turn out to be his last (or at least one of them).

After scoring 187 goals for the club, Salah will go down in history as a Liverpool legend. He remains a key part of their attack and the last man standing from his famed partnership with Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane.

Intriguingly, Firmino and Mane have both ended up in Saudi Arabia themselves this year, joining Al-Ahli and Al-Nassr respectively. Whether Salah could follow them will be decided by the Saudi transfer deadline of September 20.

Liverpool advised over Salah fee

Over the weekend, ex-Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher claimed on Sky Sports that Salah does have a price – but the value he suggested was higher than what Al-Ittihad are prepared to put on the table up front.

“I think it’d have to be over £150million,” Carragher said. “I’m not saying he’s worth that right now at his age but I don’t think £100m; you’re not replacing Mo Salah for £100m.

“If they offered a crazy figure but as I said it is so late in the window. If it was earlier – maybe they might think about it because that is the model that they’ve had in the past but I don’t think Mo Salah is going anywhere.

“I can see Mo Salah playing until he’s in his late 30s so I think he might think, ‘I’ve got another three or four years’.

“Well he’s got another two years on his contract (at Liverpool) so I don’t know if he’ll stay after that but he’ll want to score as many goals as he can, win the biggest honours, break records.

“I think there’s time for him to go to an MLS, Saudi Arabia, maybe somewhere else in the future in his late 30s because I think he looks after himself.”
