Wolves exit looking increasingly likely with dependable star identified by Spanish pair

Romain Saiss, Leander Dendoncker, Wolves, February 2022.

Wolves are in growing danger of losing midfield regular Romain Saiss, with Real Betis and Villarreal reportedly keen on the Morocco international.

Wolves have had a good season up to this point. Indeed, they are currently eighth in the Premier League, with a 10-point gap separating them from ninth.

The Molineux outfit’s defensive qualities have been their main asset this season. Indeed, they have only once conceded more than two goals in a game once this term.

Their last Premier League fixture saw them suffer a dramatic 3-2 loss against Leeds United. However, Wolves still have the fourth-best defensive record in the division, after the top three.

One crucial member of the solid defence has been Saiss. The Morocco international has missed just two league games this season, while he was at the African Cup of Nations.

Other than that period, there have been just two games in which Saiss has not played a full 90 minutes. Clearly, he has been a massive asset for the West Midlanders.

However, Wolves may begin to sweat, as a pair of Spanish sides have reportedly registered at interest in the star. Mundo Deportivo reports that Real Betis have taken a keen interest in Saiss.

With an ageing Andres Guardado’s minutes dwindling for Betis, Saiss could be seen as an apt replacement. Indeed, the star can play as a midfielder, as well as in his current role as a centre-back.

Ruben Neves set for new Wolves contract?

Ruben Neves has attracted interest from Manchester United and Arsenal recently and Wolves are desperate to secure his future with a new contract.

The report also states that Villarreal have shown an interest in the Wolves man.

Furthermore, it mentions Wolfsburg, Marseille, Rennes and Strasbourg, so Wolves could have a fight on their hands.

Saiss out of contract in summer

Romain Saiss, Wolves, February 2022.

Saiss’ contract with Wolves runs out at the end of the season. Furthermore, it does not seem as if he is close to agreeing a new deal as yet.

With that being said, the pull of the interested Spanish sides could be enough to lure him away from Wolves for free.

Indeed, Villarreal are currently plying their trade in the Champions League, and Betis are in line for a Europa League berth, should they maintain their current league position.

Wolves are slated to miss out on European football at the moment. As such, Saiss could up sticks, in the knowledge that he could guarantee European football elsewhere.
