Ruthless Tottenham plot shock late raid that’ll cripple Prem rival; Eric Dier touted as makeweight

Man Utd forward Marcus Rashford and Bournemouth defender Lloyd Kelly

Tottenham are considering a last-gasp swoop for Bournemouth defender Lloyd Kelly that could see Eric Dier move the other way, and what the move hinges on has been revealed.

Kelly, 24, is primarily a centre-back by trade though is equally adept at operating at left-back. Kelly cost the Cherries around £13m when plucked from Bristol City back in 2019. He’s since gone on to make 117 appearances for the club and is a regular starter at the Vitality Stadium.

As such, news of Tottenham circling over the versatile defender will not be greeted warmly down at Bournemouth.

Fabrizio Romano broke the news on Twitter, revealing Spurs are considering a deadline day swoop for the left-footer.

The proposed move is not advanced and no formal have have been tabled. Nonetheless, a Kelly raid is something Spurs chiefs are considering as Friday night’s 11pm deadline draws ever closer.

Explaining what the move would hinge on, Romano was keen to stress outgoings in north London are first required.

Tottenham have already loaned out two defenders this summer, with Djed Spence and Joe Rodon both joining Leeds Utd.

More look set to come, with Japhet Tanganga on course to join Augsburg on a loan with an estimated £8.6m option to buy.

Furthermore, left-back Sergio Reguilon has been granted permission to undergo a medical with Manchester United ahead of a possible loan switch.

The Red Devils seek a readymade option at left-back to provide cover for injured pair Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia.

Davinson Sanchez is another on the chopping block, while Eric Dier too has been linked with leaving. The England international has been overlooked for inclusion in all four of Tottenham’s matchday squads this season.

Clearly, Dier is unfancied by new boss Ange Postecoglou and per Romano, he could be included as a sweetener in any move for Kelly.
