Sadio Mane could well be heading back to the Premier League this summer with a report suggesting Manchester United should bring sign the former Liverpool star following his big Bayern Munich bust-up.

The Senegalese star moved to Bavaria last summer, bringing an end to a hugely-successful six year spell at Anfield. During that time, the winger scored 120 goals for Jurgen Klopp, helping Liverpool win four major trophies.

But with his deal entering its final year, Mane was allowed to leave for Bayern with the German champions striking a deal ultimately worth €41m (£35m).

However, despite a bright start, Mane’s time with Bayern has not gone to plan. Indeed, his last goal for the club came all the way back in October amid a 13-match goal drought.

More worrying still, Mane let his frustrations spill over, lashing out at teammate Leroy Sane last week following their Champions League quarter-final first-leg loss at Manchester City.

That resulted in a record £250,000 fine – and has since seen Mane linked with a return to the Premier League. To that end, his agents are reportedly working on such a move, with Liverpool’s stance on re-signing him revealed here.

However, a move to Manchester United could well be on the cards, with the Daily Express urging United to make the move.

The Red Devils tried to sign him back in 2015, only for the move to break down. And with the player a year later moving to Merseyside, the rest, as they say, is history.

Arsene Wenger offers advice with Sadio Mane tipped to leave Bayern

However, the Express feels United chiefs will feel they have unfinished business with Mane. And with Erik ten Hag looking to boost his forward line, they say he could do far worse than a move for the 31-year-old star.

They say the move relies on Bayern giving the green light to any such sale. However, a parting of ways does now have a feeling of inevitability around it. And Mane’s reported instruction to his agent to bring him back to England is only likely to hasten the rumours.

While not talking directly about Manchester United, former Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has given his thoughts on the player.

In the wake of his spat with Sane, which left the former Man City star with a bloodied lip, Wenger has revealed how he would deal with the incident.

And he has claimed that the pair need to settle their differences for the good of the team. Failure to do so, of course, could ultimately hasten up Mane’s Munich exit.

Speaking on beIN SPORTS, Wenger said: “There is a rift in the team and the management inside the club has to sort it out. The only way to sort this problem out is communication.

“You have to create the trust and the communication inside the dressing room. Most of the time when you have this problem with two players, you take them into the office and you explain to them that ‘we cannot be successful if the players inside the team do not cooperate well together’.

“That does not mean you have to love each other. But it means that the superior interest of the team is over the personal conflict of the players.”

Man Utd move for Mane highly unlikely

Suggestions of a move to United, however, appear wide of the mark.

Ten Hag is well blessed for wingers and will focus his energies on signing a new striker first and foremost. The Red Devils boss will also focus on strengthening his defence, with moves for Jeremie Frimpong and Kim Min-jae seemingly in the works.

However, that is not to say Mane will not find himself back in the Premier League this summer. Progressive clubs like Aston Villa and Newcastle could do far worse than moving for the Champions League winner. And while his wages could prove an issue, affording the reported asking price – Bayern would ideally like their money back – would not.
