Second Man City bid coming for star Guardiola classes among ‘best players in the world’

Manchester City will try their luck again with a second offer to Wolves for midfielder Matheus Nunes, according to a report.

Nunes has become a target for Man City in the final week of the transfer window as they aim to add another midfielder to their squad. Back in 2021, when he was still as Sporting, he was described by none other than Pep Guardiola as being “one of the best players in the world”.

Two years later, Guardiola’s admiration has transformed into a bid. However, Wolves – who bought Nunes last summer – rejected the opening offer from Man City.

According to the Daily Telegraph, though, the Premier League champions are about to make a second bid for the Portugal international. How much they are willing to increase their £47m proposal by has not been specified.

Nunes remains under contract at Molineux until 2027, but his employers have been trying to stay on-side with financial regulations this summer. It has prompted them to sell some of their assets, but they are still planning to keep the 24-year-old.

They are also said to be disappointed by Man City waiting until the last week or so of the summer to make their move for Nunes. If Wolves are pressured into selling him, they would have little time to sign a replacement.

And after the departures of Ruben Neves and Joao Moutinho earlier this summer, they could leave themselves with a void in midfield.

Man City want Nunes – at the right price

Man City, meanwhile, are aiming to reinforce their own department further after replacing Ilkay Gundogan with Mateo Kovacic earlier in the summer, but losing Kevin De Bruyne to injury since.

Lucas Paqueta from West Ham was a target until they froze their interest in him. Their attention has since turned to Nunes, as well as Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze.

An update on Football Insider has claimed that Palace could seek £70m for Eze. It remains to be seen if the asking price Wolves will have for Nunes is going to be higher or lower.

Elsewhere, the Independent has warned that Man City will walk away from the Nunes deal if they decide it would not represent good value for money.
