Shock first Tottenham signing if Levy appoints Kompany tipped to come from Chelsea
A Belgian journalist has named who could become Vincent Kompany’s first signing if appointed as Tottenham boss, and it would reportedly come from Chelsea.
Cristian Stellini will guide Tottenham through the remainder of the campaign, though the search for Tottenham’s next permanent manager has already begun.
Julian Nagelsmann was reported by BILD to have spurned Tottenham’s advances. The ex-Bayern boss is in the frame to take the reins at Chelsea.
Luis Enrique, Brendan Rodgers and Will Still have all been mentioned. However, the bookies’ favourite at the time of writing is Vincent Kompany.
The Man City legend has worked wonders with Burnley this season, achieving promotion with multiple games to spare.
Even more impressive is the way in which he’s transformed Burnley from a club known for being pragmatic to one who play attractive football and are easy on the eye.
The Sun recently claimed Kompany had been installed as the No 1 target of Spurs chairman, Daniel Levy. Per the newspaper, Kompany was also deemed willing to listen to what Tottenham have to say.
If appointed, Kompany’s first window in charge will be all-important, especially if Tottenham are forced into selling Harry Kane. The club’s all-time record goalscorer is poised to enter the final year of his deal this summer and Man Utd are circling.
Romelu Lukaku tipped for Tottenham switch
If departing, Belgian journalist, Filip Joos, has tipped Kompany and Tottenham to move for Chelsea problem player, Romelu Lukaku.
Lukaku is Belgium’s all-time leading scorer, though his fortunes at club level have nosedived in recent years.
Lukaku is currently on loan at Inter Milan, though fitness issues have ensured his second stint at the San Siro has been a disappointment.
He’ll return to Stamford Bridge this summer before being put up for sale. Speaking to Belgian outlet Voetbal Primeur, Joos talked up the idea of Lukaku filling the void that could potentially be left by Kane.
Initially highlighting another Conte link-up following their successful tandem at Inter, the journalist said: “It could well be the team where Conte becomes coach.
“Juventus is mentioned and if they get rid of [Dusan] Vlahovic, there will be enough money to get Lukaku.”
Alternatively, Joos then put forward a potential ‘collaboration’ between Lukaku and his fellow Belgian, Kompany.
“It would mean that Kompany would have to let Harry Kane go to get Lukaku,” continued Joos.
“Those are big shoes to fill. I might not dare to do it, but I also think it could work.”
Lukaku cost Chelsea a whopping £98m back in 2021. Given how his club career has stalled since then and the fact he’s already on the chopping block, Spurs could conceivably sign Lukaku with the Kane money and have plenty left spare for signings elsewhere.
Transfermarkt list Lukaku’s valuation at just €40m (approx. £35.4m).
