Southampton, Watford to rival AC Milan for Barcelona defender

Premier League duo Southampton and Watford are both in the running to sign young Barcelona defender Jean-Clair Todibo, according to reports.

A report in Mundo Deportivo, as cited by Calciomercato, claims that the 19-year-old is looking to quit the Catalan giants in January after failing to earn a regular starting spot at the Nou Camp.

There have been significant rumours that AC Milan were eager to sign Todibo, but the report adds they are now facing strong competition from four different clubs – Bayer Leverkusen, Watford, Southampton and AS Monaco – for the youngster.

Todibo, who is a France Under-20 international, joined Barcelona from Toulouse in January 2019 and has made just four LaLiga appearances for the club.

The youngster can play as either a centre-back or in a holding midfield role, with his versatility thought to be the main reason Barca to decided to bring forward a deal for the player in January rather than sign him last summer.

But things have not worked out the way that Todibo has liked and it would appear that a New Year switch could very much be on the cards.
