Tottenham transfers: Door opens for Postecoglou to sign classy centre-back after Sanchez exit

Tosin Adarabioyo Fulham

The door has reportedly opened for Tottenham to sign out of favour defender Tosin Adarabioyo from Premier League rivals Fulham in the January transfer window.

Ange Postecoglou was very interested in a move for the 25-year-old centre-back throughout the summer window, especially after a proposed switch to French side Monaco fell through.

However, a late exit from Craven Cottage failed to materialise and Adarabioyo is now out in the cold under Marco Silva.

Football Insider reports that the giant defender, who has entered the final year of his contract, has burnt his bridges at Fulham which will make it difficult for him to get back into the side.

It was claimed last month that Fulham were preparing for Adarabioyo’s exit and were looking at alternatives in the market.

But after Monaco’s bid was knocked back and Spurs failed to make a concrete offer, the player remained in west London.

Football Insider adds that Adarabioyo has been training alone until recently and has made only one substitute appearance this term after being ditched from the  matchday squad for their opening two games of the season.

Adarabioyo joined Fulham from Manchester City’s academy back in 2020 and the club activated an extension in January this year, keeping him at Craven Cottage until next summer.

Since his arrival, the defender has made 108 appearances for Fulham across all competitions, netting three goals and laying on two assists.

Abarabioyo set for January transfer

And while Abarabioyo was a regular starter for Marco Silva’s side last term, it now appears that he will be heading for the exit door in January with Tottenham firm favourites to snap up his signature.

The north London side have left themselves a little light at centre-back after allowing Davinson Sanchez to move to Turkey this week, while Eric Dier remains out of Postecoglou’s plans.

That leaves only Ben Davies and summer signing Ashley Phillips as back up to Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven.

Tottenham are back in action on September 16 when they host Sheffield United in the Premier League, while Fulham welcome Luton on the same day.
