Tottenham face new Prem rival in race for Juventus defender with tempting price after making approach

Tottenham Hotspur have made one of the most recent enquiries for Juventus full-back Andrea Cambiaso, according to reports in Italy.

Cambiaso joined Juventus from Genoa last summer but was quickly loaned out to Bologna. Now, his chances of ever making his debut for his parent club are in doubt. Juventus are trying to balance their squad for the upcoming season and Cambiaso may get left behind.

He has long been linked with Tottenham and, according to Tuttosport, the Premier League side have recently made an approach to his representatives.

In addition to Tottenham, Nottingham Forest have started to show an interest in bringing Cambiaso to England. With that in mind, they have also reached out to his entourage.

Alternatively, Bologna would be willing to take him on loan again and AC Milan – who are ready to move on their backup left-back, Fode Ballo-Toure, to Fulham – have also established their own interest.

But Tottenham and Forest are the latest contenders for Cambiaso’s signature. For any of them to sign him, they would have to meet the €20m asking price that Juventus have just set.

Equating to around £17m, it is an interesting price tag for a player with 60 top-flight appearances to his name.

Tottenham fight Forest for Cambiaso

At the age of 23, Cambiaso has margin for improvement, so clubs could be buying into his potential. He mainly plays as a left-back, which is a role Tottenham have already turned to the Serie A market to strengthen when they bought Destiny Udogie from Udinese last year.

Udogie was allowed to remain at Udinese for another season on loan. Now, he is at Tottenham’s disposal again for the start of the Ange Postecoglou era.

Whether Spurs need to invest in another left-back for the future could be up for question. However, the changes to their system that Postecoglou is inheriting may make them reflect on their plans.

Meanwhile, Forest have made a full-back signing from Serie A this summer after adding Ola Aina to their squad following his release by Torino.

Aina plays on the opposite side of defence to Cambiaso, though, which is why they might be able to bring in both players.

Last season, Renan Lodi was a frequent sight at left-back for Forest, but he was only on loan from Atletico Madrid and has since signed for Marseille on a permanent basis instead of returning to the City Ground.
