Tottenham ‘will’ rival Man Utd for £100m Prem striker as Postecoglou eyes superb Kane replacement

Brentford striker Ivan Toney

Man Utd, Tottenham linked Brentford striker Ivan Toney

Tottenham Hotspur will reportedly make a move to sign Brentford striker Ivan Toney in January, with his price tag set at an eye-watering £100m.

Ange Postecoglou is still searching for a replacement for Harry Kane, who signed for Bayern Munich earlier this month.

Toney is currently banned from playing football until January after being found guilty of breaching betting rules. There is no denying that he is a quality striker, though.

The England international netted 20 goals in 33 league appearances for Brentford last term, trailing only Erling Haaland (36) and Kane (30) in the scoring charts.

Several clubs hold an interest in Toney, with Manchester United also interested in signing him, despite his ban. With that in mind, Tottenham have a fight on their hands if they want to win the race for the centre-forward.

Postecoglou has several striker targets on his radar at the moment, including Porto star Mehdi Taremi.

Tottenham could go for Toney in January as well as signing a striker before the summer window closes. He may prove to be even more expensive than originally anticipated, though.

Brentford want £100m for Toney

According to Football InsiderTottenham have a ‘strong interest’ in Toney and ‘will assess’ a potential January move for him.

Toney has recently changed agents to join CAA Stellar, which represents the likes of Jack Grealish and Ben Chilwell. This indicates he is looking to leave Brentford.

Despite this, Thomas Frank will not let his star striker leave on the cheap. Football Insider’s report suggests that the Bees will demand £100m for Toney in January.

Tottenham sold Kane to Bayern Munich for the same amount. Although, they will most likely have to sell players before sanctioning another major incoming.

The likes of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Eric Dier, Davinson Sanchez, Japhet Tanganga and several others have all been heavily linked with departures from Spurs this summer.

If Postecoglou can offload some of those players, a move for Toney could become a reality. Whether or not Tottenham will be willing to spend £100m on him, however, remains to be seen.

Man Utd will no doubt provide stiff competition for the striker, though, so it will be interesting to see where he ends up.
