Everton transfer news: Lampard steps up striker hunt with move for Ligue 1 attacker Serhou Guirassy

Everton boss Frank Lampard is ready to step his bid to add a new striker to his ranks after losing leading marksman Dominic Calvert-Lewin for six weeks.

The England forward suffered a knee injury in training in the build-up to the Premier League season opener against Chelsea at Goodison Park on Saturday evening, leaving the Toffees without a recognised striker for the game.

Having sold Richarlison this summer and with Solomon Rondon banned on Saturday, Lampard ended up playing Anthony Gordon furthest forward as his side went down a 1-0 defeat on Merseyside.

But thought straight after the game turned to two positions in need of major help before September 1.

As well as a new striker, Everton are also after a centre-back and that need is even more prominent now after events on Saturday.

Ben Godfrey suffered a fractured leg early in the game. Yerry Mina, meanwhile, limped off with an ankle injury late on.

A new addition is on the horizon in the shape of giant midfielder Amadou Onana.

But it’s a new central striker that Lampard surely has his eyes now, given Everton’s lack of firepower.

Chelsea forward Armando Broja is expected to be the subject of a loan bid this week. He actually came on against Everton on Saturday evening.

Broja impressed in a temporary switch to Southampton last term. But with Chelsea allowing Romelu Lukaku to return to Inter Milan, the Albanian could end up staying put.

Lampard looking to increase Everton firepower

With that in mind, reports have since emerged of Everton’s interest in Rennes attacker Serhou Guirassy.

The Sun claims that Lampard wants the 26-year-old after initially being impressed with the Guinea international two years ago while he was Chelsea boss.

The report adds that Guirassy is available for £15million. However, a loan with an obligation to buy could also be an option.

Guirassy boasts a decent record from his time with Rennes. In total, he has scored 18 Ligue 1 goals in 57 games.

He is regarded as a hard-working forward who likes to build up play, which are similar traits to Calvert-Lewin.

It’s now down to the two clubs to find a way to get the transfer done.

But one thing is for sure, Everton need to work fast given their growing injury crisis.
