Liverpool may have already spent close to £100m on new midfielders this summer – but Jamie Carragher has revealed that Jurgen Klopp is still planning another addition in that department.

The Reds have moved quickly to fix their problem position from last season, with two additions through the door. And with Dominik Szoboszlai (£60m) adding to the addition of Alexis Mac Allister (£35m), the Reds have made their intentions clear.

Indeed, a new No 10 and a new No 8 should add much more goals to their side. Szoboszlai contributed to an impressive 24 goals last season (10 goals, 14 assists) and the Hungarian inherited a legendary shirt on Merseyside.

Mac Allister, meanwhile, scored 11 times last season for Brighton. And between them, the two men should offer more of a threat than the departing Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and James Milner.

Klopp, though is seemingly not done on the transfer front yet. Indeed, he is still reportedly in the market for a new No 6, with journalist Ben Jacobs claiming Liverpool are ‘seriously exploring a deal for Romeo Lavia’.

The midfielder has been cleared to leave Southampton this summer, though his £50m valuation could probe problematic. Nonetheless, Liverpool are seemingly ready to pursue a deal.

And there appears an optimism on Merseyside that Liverpool can get his signing done for a little bit less.

Carragher is also of the opinion that Klopp will target one more midfield addition.

In addition, the legendary Kop hero also believes Liverpool are also planning a defensive signing this summer.

Liverpool transfers: Carragher identifies next three Klopp targets

Discussing their business so far and what is still to come, Carragher made his feelings clear on Sky Sports last month.

“I think they need another midfield player at least,” he said.

“I think Liverpool will end up getting another two midfield players and I think they’ll need another defender as well. Whether that’s a centre-back or a full-back remains to be seen.

“There’s a lot of talk whether Liverpool will keep the system they finished the season with. And that’s really interesting, but I think they’ll get another three players in.”

That system Carragher is referring to centres around Trent Alexander-Arnold playing in a creative midfield role.

The right-back has proved one of the more creative stars in recent years, claiming an impressive 66 assists since breaking into the side.

But with his defensive qualities proving his downfall, Liverpool have since moved him into midfield. He also held that position for England in their two Euro 2024 qualifiers at the end of the season.

Now it seems unlikely he will be moved back there. However, in order to put the plan into operation, Liverpool will need to sign a new right-back.

As it stands, only really Joe Gomez can cover there. And links to the likes of Benjamin Pavard certainly make a lot of sense, amid claims Bayern Munich are willing to sell.

Furthermore, both Thiago Alcantara and Jordan Henderson the wrong side of 30. As such, another midfield addition does make a lot of sense.

Liverpool do have Fabinho as a No 6. But the Brazilian’s performance-levels dropped off last season and it makes sense a replacement is being sought in Lavia.
