Chelsea urged to offer second chance to 121-goal attacker as Boehly eyes antidote to scoring woes

Eden Hazard and Romelu Lukaku

TalkSPORT pundit Gabby Agbonlahor has urged Chelsea to bring back Romelu Lukaku in a bid to solve their goalscoring problems.

The Belgium international is set to return to Stamford Bridge this summer with Inter Milan not having the funds to buy the Blues loanee on a permanent deal.

Lukaku has scored 121 Premier League goals in 278 appearances during stints with West Brom, Everton, Man Utd and Chelsea, so he could certainly help turn Chelsea’s lacklustre form in front of goal around next term.

As previously reported by TEAMtalk, the centre-forward would ideally prefer to stay in Italy, but as mentioned, that is unlikely at the moment.

Chelsea have scored just one goal from open play in their last six games and despite taking 19 shots against Real Madrid on Tuesday, they still couldn’t find the back of the net.

Now, Agbonlahor has said that it is essential that they bring in a new striker ahead of next season, which, really, is quite obvious

He has also insisted that bringing Lukaku back would be a no-brainer, but also believes Brentford striker Ivan Toney would be an excellent signing.

Although, Toney could potentially face a lengthy ban for betting offences, so it could be a risk to bring him in this summer.

Agbonlahor: “I’d bring Lukaku back”

Speaking on talkSPORTthe ex-Villa striker said: “It’s Chelsea’s finishing – it’s half-embarrassing when you watch them now.

“Chelsea just need a striker. To have Ziyech, Pulisic and not put Aubameyang in the Champions League squad, it doesn’t make sense to me.

“I’d bring Lukaku back. Ivan Toney is also a great shout. They need someone who is going to score you goals, all types of goals, and who has played in the Premier League.

“It has to be a signing to tie in with Financial Fair Play as well. The amount of money they’ve already spent, they probably can’t go out and buy a £120m striker.

“Get the team playing to Lukaku’s strengths. When Lukaku was at Chelsea, Chillwell and James were injured and they weren’t getting the ball in the box for him. He wasn’t getting the service.

“You look at Chelsea yesterday against Real Madrid, Lukaku would have scored a couple of goals at least – Reece James was putting the ball in the box and Havertz isn’t really going to get in there and be aggressive.

“I felt sorry for some of the Chelsea players. It was like all their hard work and there’s no point putting the ball in the box, we’ve got nowhere in there!”

“But, saying they need a striker, the other players have got to do better. Wingers can score goals, too.

“Havertz has nine, Sterling has seven, then you’ve got Mount on three, Aubameyang on three and Jorginho on three – he’s not even at the club any more!”
