Wober tight-lipped on long-term Leeds future after describing exit as ‘really great move’

Maximilian Wober is not yet thinking about whether he will make his loan move from Leeds United to Borussia Monchengladbach a permanent one.
Despite only arriving at Leeds in January, Wober was one of many players to leave the club on loan after their relegation from the Premier League to the Championship. His choice of destination was Borussia Monchengladbach, who were able to take him to the German Bundesliga for the first time in his career.
There has been no mention of whether there is an option for Borussia Monchengladbach to buy Wober at the end of his loan spell. However, if he impresses there, it might prompt speculation about a permanent deal.
For now, though, thoughts of converting his loan into a full transfer are not crossing the Austria international’s mind.
Wober told Laola: “I’m in Gladbach for the year now, I’m fully focused on it and I’m going to throw everything into it. I don’t really want to think about what it will look like in the summer yet.”
So far, Wober has started all four of Gladbach’s matches this season, contributing his first Bundesliga assist in a recent loss to Bayern Munich. Playing either as a centre-back or a left-back, he will be hoping to keep making himself useful to his new club.
Wober: Gladbach a ‘great move’
Regardless of what his long-term future holds, he is glad to have chosen Gladbach as his next step.
The 25-year-old explained: “For me, it was a really great move. I’ve settled in really well, it’s a family club, a real traditional club with incredible fans.”
Back in West Yorkshire, his contract with Leeds is still due to run until 2027. While defenders like Wober and Robin Koch left over the summer and Diego Llorente renewed his loan at Roma, Daniel Farke’s side brought in reinforcements such as Joe Rodon and Ethan Ampadu and welcomed back Charlie Cresswell after his own time out on loan.
They also managed to fend off interest in Pascal Struijk from suitors in his native Belgium and are still captained by Liam Cooper.
