‘Zero chance’ senior Leicester man will join Inter this summer after agreeing deal in principle with European giants

Reports have suggested that Leicester City centre-back Caglar Soyuncu could join Inter Milan this summer, but this is not the case as he has already agreed a deal in principle elsewhere.

The Italian giants have been looking for a potential replacement for Milan Skriniar, who has been linked with a switch to Tottenham and Newcastle recently.

But, Inter will have to look elsewhere, as barring any last-minute twists, Soyuncu will join Atletico Madrid on a free transfer.

Skriniar will be a big loss to Simone Inghazi if he does make a move to the Premier League, so he will need to bring in an experienced head to replace him.

However, as reported by Inter Livethe Nerazzurri have ‘zero chance’ of penning a deal for Soyuncu, because he has already agreed to join Atletico at the end of the season.

This doesn’t come as a big surprise, because as reported by TEAMtalk, Diego Simoene is a big admirer of the Turkey international, who has been a key player for Leicester over the years.

The Foxes have already brought in two highly-rated centre-backs this season, Wout Faes and Harry Souttar, who are trusted by manager Brendan Rodgers.

With that in mind, it seems very unlikely they will u-turn and offer Soyuncu a contract extension.

Experienced Soyuncu could reignite his career with Atletico

Soyuncu has played just 79 minutes of Premier League football for Leicester this season, after falling behind the likes of Faes, Souttar and Daniel Amartey in the pecking order.

However, the Turkish defender has proved in the past that he can perform at the highest level, hence the interest from Inter and Atletico.

Since signing for the Foxes in 2018, Soyuncu has made 127 appearances across all competitions, scoring three goals in the process.

Last season, in 28 Premier League matches, Soyuncu averaged a solid 1.7 tackles, 1.2 interceptions and 3.2 clearances per outing, helping his side to five clean sheets.

Of course, the centre-back was also a key part of the 2020/21 Leicester side which finished fifth in the league table and won the FA Cup, playing 32 matches in that campaign.

Soyuncu has plenty of experience under his belt, too, with 51 appearances for Turkey and has also played well in the Bundesliga with Freiburg.

With that in mind, the defender will represent a solid signing for Atletico. There is currently uncertainty over the future of Mario Hermoso, as well as their other centre-back Felipe, while Stefan Savic has struggled with injuries this season.

Considering he will be available on a free transfer in the summer, Atletico look set for a massive bargain by bringing in the experienced Soyuncu.

This will be frustrating for Inter, though, as they will undoubtedly have to find someone else to replace Skriniar if he does join Tottenham or Newcastle this summer.
