With one of the proudest records in English football history, Everton Football Club, which came into being in 1878, has spent more years playing in football's top division than any other club - an incredible 118 seasons. In fact, since it was a founding member of the Football League in 1888 it has only spent four seasons outside the top flight. Over the years, Everton have won many titles, including nine league triumphs, five FA Cups, one European Cup Winners' Cup and nine Charity Shields.
Commonly referred to as The Toffees or The Blues they are also sometimes called The People's Club or The School of Science. For several years, a long time ago, Everton and their neighbours and rivals Liverpool both played at Anfield. A dispute over rental led Everton to move to Goodison Park, a venue they have called home since 1892.
Everton are currently managed by Spaniard Rafael Benítez, who was a controversial appointment given his association with fierce rivals Liverpool. Everton have had many successful managers over the course of their history. In recent times there is a strong association with David Moyes who was at the helm of the club for 11 years from 2002 until 2013. Other standout managers include multiple trophy winners Howard Kendall, Harry Catterick and Thomas McIntosh.
On the field, Everton have featured many stars over the years. Some of the players most strongly associated with the club are 383-goal scorer Dixie Dean, goalkeeper Neville Southall, Brian Labone, Alan Ball, Duncan Ferguson and Kevin Ratcliffe. Currently, the club's big stars include Brazilian Richarlison, England striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin and skipper Seamus Coleman.
